Wollongong Off To Winning Start

WOLLONGONG FC started the season with a 3-1 victory over State Super League champions Bonnyrigg White Eagles in a trial match at the Serbian Sports centre on Saturday.
The match allowed both sides to work on combinations before the John Warren Cup starts this weekend and the Wollongong strikers all got on the scoresheet.Goal-scorers Daniel Aliffi, Ilija Prenzoski and Osagie Ederaro impressed, as the players got some match practice after a long pre-season period which started back in November.Wollongong FC, which no longer calls itself the Wolves, had a successful day at other levels, as the youth grade team won 3-2 and the under 18s scored a 4-1 win.The John Warren Cup begins for Wollongong against Manly FC at Marconi Stadium on Saturday.The squad will be strengthened by the return of Mitchell Long from a broken foot and Alfredo Esteves from a knee injury.Wollongong's first home game is against Sydney Olympic at Crehan Park on Australia Day.
