THE South Coast School Sports Association held its annual sports awards presentation lunch at the Illawarra Turf Club last Tuesday.
More than 100 guests helped celebrate the outstanding achievements of the region's public school athletes. In all, 20 primary and secondary schools students from throughout the Illawarra and South-East region were recognised during this prestigious event.The awards committee had a tough task selecting this year's recipients, with more than 1600 students from the South Coast association taking part in state championships during 2008.Of these competitors, 170 gained state representation or higher. Last year's Brian Downes Trophy and Presidents Award recipient, champion runner Ryan Gregson, was guest speaker, keeping the audience enthralled as he answered a range of questions relating to his experiences and career.Goulburn High School students Sophie Broadhead and Jacob Kara were announced as the Integral Energy Scholarship recipients for 2008. Integral Energy representative Janine Cullen presented Sophie and Jacob with a cheque for $500 to assist with their travel and related expenses.
